Overview
The League of the South (LoS) is an American religious and social movement, established by Michael Hill, a former history professor at Stillman College in 1994. It has become a racist and white supremacist group that is linked to the Nationalist Front, neo-Nazis and conventional white supremacists.
Many of the LoS's early founders and members were paleoconservative authors and professors, who advocate for limited government, opposition to ethnic diversity and immigration. In addition to returning to traditional social values and Christian-oriented Southern culture, the aim of LoS is to promote independence and a separated U.S. southern state based on "Anglo-Celtic culture”.
Amongst the extremist beliefs that have been adopted by LoS are the rejection of interracial marriage and the justification of antebellum (pre U.S. Civil War) slavery as being “God-ordained”. The group’s founder, Michael Hill has called for white people in the U.S. rural south to arm themselves to defend themselves against a “feral n----” invasion.
In 2010, Michael Hill also urged LoS’ members to form private militias. The LoS has also has warned members that the dialogue of the "corrupt impact of post-Christian culture in the USA" will lead to the demise of white, Christian culture in America.
Ties to Extremism
Michael Hill had published hate tweets before his Twitter account was suspended. Some of those tweets are as following:
“Anti-Semitism is a White survival strategy. Or if it's not, it should be. Maybe one day you'll learn, White Man, before (((they))) completely destroy you and your civilization.” Michael Hill, Twitter, April 14, 2018
"The Jew is filling up his cup of wrath to the very top, waiting for his day of divine judgement. He now occupies the sacred &, at the same time, the most profane & accused ground on earth: Golgotha, Calvary, the place where they murdered the Son of God Himself. They will pay.” Michael Hill, Twitter, March 24, 2018
“If the white races are to survive, all negroids and Islamists must be removed from our lands. And more importantly, their (((puppet masters))) must be exterminated.” Joseph Cole, Vk.com. July 10, 2017
The League of the South garnered hard-core radicals like white supremacist Michael Tubbs. Tubbs attacked and robbed two African-American soldiers in North Carolina in 1987, shouting, "This is for the Klan." Authorities uncovered an armory of weapons and explosives linked to Tubbs, the majority of which had been taken from military facilities and sold to white nationalist groups. Tubbs had formed his own organization, the Knights of the New Order, and was preparing to attack black and Jewish-owned businesses at the time. Tubbs faced federal weapons charges in 1991, and after his release, he joined the LoS and rose through the ranks to become a leader in the Florida branch. Tubbs is still an important member of the LoS.
Another case related to Jack Kershaw, one of the founding members. Kershaw was an official in the White Citizens Councils. He showed his anti-integration views between the 1950s and 1960s. Kershaw had never hidden his racist views. In 1998, he stated: “Somebody needs to say a good word for slavery.” “Where in the world are the Negroes in better off today than in America?”
