Overview
Christian Voice is a fundamentalist Christian pressure group. It is independent of religious, denominational, or political parties. Its stated objective is "to uphold Christianity as the Faith of the United Kingdom, to be a voice for Biblical values in law and public policy, and to defend and support traditional family life."
Christian Voice demands that British law be based on the Bible, which opposes abortion, homosexuality, and sex education, no-fault divorce, and does not recognize marital rape.
Ties to Extremism
In 2005, Christian Voice protested over the BBC religious programme, with Stephen Green - its leader - stating that the BBC supports bookstores that sell and promote the Quran. As a response, the BBC participated in a demonstration against the anti-religious hate bill. Stephen Green stated that the Christian Voice organization will consider taking legal action against bookstores that sell the Quran and inform the police about employees who sell the Quran, which as he described "incites hatred, while the Bible does not call for the killing of unbelievers”.
In December 2010, a documentary titled “The Nativity” was broadcasted on the BBC. The documentary portrayed the Virgin Mary as being assaulted by individuals who did not believe she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit. Her husband Joseph alleged that she was raped before her pregnancy. Green described the film as offensive to Christianity and described this film as reflecting the perspective of a large percentage of extremist liberal atheists who are seeking to get rid of Christianity. He added, "They will not make fun of Muhammad's birth or anything to do with his life story. They will not make fun of Hinduism or Sikhism, but Christianity is their big goal." Although this particular instance is not considered hate speech, Green’s statement that British media outlets are targeting Christianity will likely resonate with followers who believe the narrative that Christians and Christianity are being persecuted in the UK by the mainstream media.
Also in 2010, Christian Voice UK published an article titled “Our own Holocaust”. In the article, the group targets abortion, and likens it to measures taken by the Nazis towards people with disabilities. According to the article, the Nazis began by forcibly sterilizing mentally disabled people as 'unfit to reproduce,' killing them with gas, and then expanding the killing program to include other groups they hated, mainly Jews. The Christian Voice describes abortion as a “moral abyss”.
