Hazem Shouman

Biography

Hazem Shouman is an Egyptian preacher from the Muslim Brotherhood and based in Mansoura. He gained notoriety after his inflammatory attacks on non-Islamists.

Before the Egyptian revolution, he regularly appeared on Salafi TV channels such as Al Nas and Al Rahma. In a sermon he declared that “a civil state means that your mother does not wear the headscarf.” The non-Islamists were shocked and ridiculed him after this statement.

In November 2011, he disrupted a musical party in Mansoura saying that singing was forbidden. Hazem is also aggressively against Valentine’s day stating that it will destroy people of faith and will lead them far from God.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

February 2021: Hazem Shouman talked about Valentine’s day saying that it’s more dangerous than HIV/AIDS or Ebola and that it has to be fought in any way.

September 2011: Regarding Jews, Shuman stated, “I address them on behalf of 85 million Egyptians, whose hearts beat with hatred for the Jews, and with the knowledge of what the Jews did to us and of how Allah warned us about them [...] I tell them that the battle is bound to come, Allah be praised [...] My message to all the Jews is that the battle is bound to come and you will be vanquished” He also said that the end of the world would come when Muslims fought Jews.

October 2009: He also addressed Jewish people in another video talking about the Sabra and Shatila massacre saying “Jews are always the same. We are still tormented by the sights of their massacres of the Muslims, when they went into Sabra and Shatila. Sharon chopped off the limbs of children, and used them to make a necklace, so that he could boast that he dismembered the bodies of Muslim children [...] I have a message for every Jew on the face of the earth. The army of Muhammad will return. Oh offspring of apes and pigs, the day of vengeance is nearing. Oh most accursed creatures created by Allah, those who swore before the Prophet Muhammad to die are returning. Wait for us and you will see, you most accursed creatures.”
