Abdul Alim Musa
Other names: عبد العليم موسى/(b. Clarence Reams)
Current Status: Preacher in Washington D.C.
Biography
Abdul Alim Musa, previously known as Clarence Reams was born in Arkansas in 1945 and grew up in Oakland, California. Musa got into the drug trade outside Colombia, where he was arrested on heroin smuggling charges. When Musa was imprisoned, he converted to Sunni Islam.
Musa served for more than 18 years as the Imam of the Al-Masjid Mosque in Washington D.C. He has made assertions that Zionist American agents blew up the World Trade Center and that in the 1960s, the U.S. government flooded American cities with heroin to stop black resistance. In addition, Musa also stated that “If Bin Ladin is a Muslim and if he is alive, I have to like him.”
Musa founded the As-Sabiqun organization - an extremist American Muslim organization in 1995. The organisation is considered a hate group that promotes the idea of the "establishment of Islam as a complete way of life in America.” Al Musa tends to use his austere and misguided interpretation to fit it into a racial paradigm of white vs. black in America. He often goes on tangents during his online videos by conflating Islam with racial issues in the U.S., despite those issues being unrelated to the topic of Islam or religion.
Musa is inspired by the extremist teachings of Sayyid Qutb and Hassan Al-Banna - two of the most important thinkers and extremists of 20th century Islamism, and founding members of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood organisation. Musa encouraged new members of As-Sabiqun to read the works of Qutb, Hassan Al-Banna and attend daily lectures on classical Islamic studies.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:
November 2016: Musa stated in a sermon at the Al Islam Mosque, “They ‘the Zionists’ will bring a fool to power any time they can to do their bidding”, adding that Muslims should “rescue the poor, dumb American people”. Musa also described white Americans as people that “don’t think too much,” and that “negroes ain’t no better.”
August 2012: The As-Sabiqun published Musa’s Eid Message which presented three top enemies to the Islamic Ummah: USA, Israel, and Saudi Arabia as the “Triangle of Terror”. He stated that Israel changed the idea of peace-loving Muslims and made the world look at them as warmongers, while the US worked with Israel to promote the negative image of Islam and Muslims. He continued his speech by accusing Saudi Arabia of propagating an unbalanced, irrelevant, and divisive version of Islam, and make other Muslims enemies.
October 2009: The UK Home Office banned Abdul Alim Musa from entering the UK due to his radical beliefs and encouraging and promoting terrorist violence, and attempting to influence others to commit terrorist actions. This official action was taken to maintain the public interest of the country.
