‘Ata ibn Khalil Abu Al-Rashta
Other names: Abu Yasin/Abu Al Rashta
Current Ideological Status: Head of Hizbul Tahrir Global
Biography
‘Ata Abu Al Rashta is the current leader (Ameer) of HT Global - the radical Islamist movement that calls for an Islamic super-state (Caliphate) ruled by Shari’a law. Al Rashta’s current whereabouts are unclear, due to his position as the head of HT Global - an organisation that is banned in over 40 countries, including the vast majority of Arab and Muslim countries. Al Rashti assumed the role as the leader of the organisation in 2003 after the death of the former leader Abdul Qadeem Zalloum. On HT Australia’s website, Abu Al Rashta is described as “a very rare erudite scholar, jurist, author and activist”.
Abu Al Rashta joined HT in the 1950’s and worked closely with the founder of the organisation, Taqiuddin an-Nabhani, who also led the organisation until his death in the 1970’s. In the 1980’s, Abu Al Rashta was a leading member of the Jordanian chapter of the organisation and was appointed its first official spokesperson - years before the organisation was banned from operating in Jordan.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:
March 2021: As is the case with HT’s narrative of Arab and Muslim leaders being agents of the West, and of betraying the Palestinian cause by normalising with Israel, Abu Al Rashta penned a letter on a HT publication - Al Rayah news - where he referred to rulers of Arab countries as traitors who assisted the infidels and who sold Palestine. In addition, Abu Al Rashta accuses the rulers of Arab and Muslim countries of “making every effort to fight God and his messenger [Prophet Muhammad]”.
January 2013: On a visit to Syria, Al Rashta outlined the plans of global powers who, on the one hand, are supporting Assad while, on the other, are working to install a client regime; and motivated the Muslims of Syria from Quran and Sunnah to maintain their sincere struggle against the regime and to hold fast to Islam.
