Mazen Al Sersawy
Biography
Mazen Al Sersawy is an Egyptian preacher born in the village of Bani Amer, Egypt. When he was eleven years old, he was honored by the Egyptian President for being one of the first children to memorize the Quran. He also obtained a prize from the Zagazig Recitations Institute in 1996. At Al-Azhar - the most prestigious centre for Islamic learning - he was among the top ten in his class and earned the institute’s secondary certificate.
Mazen was always interested in the Arab poetry such as the poetry of Al-Mutanabbi and Shawqi. He joined the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion and Advocacy in Zagazig, then specialized in Hadith and its sciences where he obtained a Master’s degree in the field, his thesis was entitled “The Reasons for Hadith and Knowledge of Men and History” by Imam Ali bin Al-Madini. Furthermore, he obtained a PhD in Hadith and its sciences. His thesis, which was on “The actions of narrators in the text of the Hadiths”, was under the supervision of some prominent Sheikhs such as Al-Muhadith, Ahmed Mabed Abd al-Karim, and Muhammad Mahmoud Ahmad Hashem.
Al Sersawy has produced 60 books in Hadith and Islamic history. He was also the supervisor of the Al Majd Salafi tv channel and played a prominent role in the creation of Al Majd Hadith channel as he prepared its entire religious content and supervised its creation process from a scientific point of view in the first five months after it was launched. Based on research conducted by EMAN, Al Sersawy shies away from openly expressing his extremist beliefs, and has begun maintaining a low profile. A likely explanation is the current Egyptian government’s crackdown on Islamists.
