Rabee Al Madkhali
Biography
Rabee Ibn Hadi Umar Al-Madkhali is a Saudi Salafi Muslim scholar. He is best known for creating an independent faction within Salafism - the Al Madkhali Salafism school of thought. Al-Madkhali’s adherents are known as Madkhali Salafis and make up one of the most significant and influential branches inside the Salafi movement. According to The Muslim 500, he is one of the most radical and influential Salafis.
He started his graduate studies in 1961 at the Faculty of Sharia at Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University in Riyadh for two months before entering the Faculty of Sharia at the Islamic University of Madinah where he was taught by prominent scholars such as Abd al-Aziz ibn Baz, Muhammad Nasiruddin al-Albani, Abdul-Muhsin Al-Abbad, Muhammad Amin Al-Shanqiti, Saleh Al-Iraqi and Abdul-Ghaffar Hasan Al-Hindi. After his graduation, he started working at the same University, becoming a professor at the Islamic University of Madinah where he taught at the Faculty of Hadith and later, head of the Department of Sunnah (Sayings and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad) in the Department of Higher Studies until his retirement in 1990s.
In 2016, he issued a fatwa calling upon “the Salafis of Libya” to rebel against the UN-recognized Government of National Accord in favor of Khalifa Haftar.
Rabee Al-Madkhali is also an author of over 30 books and publications in the fields of Hadith and Islamic disciplines such as “Manhajul-Anbiyā’ Fid-Da’wah IlAllāh Fīhī Al-Hikmah Wal-‘Aql” – “The Methodology of the Prophets in Calling to Allāh: In it was Wisdom and Intellect” (1984) which made him famous in Saudi Arabia, and “Manhaj Ahlus-Sunnah Fī Naqd Ar-Rijāl Wal-Kutub Wat–Tawā’if” – “The Methodology of The People of Sunnah in Criticism of Men, Books, and Groups.”, “Kashf Mawqif Al-Ghazālī Min As-Sunnah Wa-Ahlihā” – “Exposing Ghazālī’s Position Regarding the Sunnah and Its People.” among others.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:
December 2018: In a religious opinion published on his website, Al Madkhali said that building churches in Muslim countries is not authorised (Haram). The cleric justified his opinion by saying that god is not worshipped in churches.
January 2017: Al Madkhali has heavily criticised Al Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al Tayeb in a famous article on his website. The cleric condemned one of Al Tayeb’s speeches about the brotherhood between humans despite religious differences. Furthemore, Al Madkhali called Al Tayeb to correct his positive statement on the peaceful nature of Buddhism.
December 2015: In a long article published on his official website Al Madkhali revealed his position vis a vis Shiism. He clearly stated that Shia are infidels and shouldn’t be considered as Muslims. Furthermore, he accused Iranians of conducting a plan to exterminate Muslims, particularly in Yemen and Iraq.
