Biography

Paul Golding is a British far-right politician and the current leader “Britain First”. In 1999, Golding became active in nationalistic politics for the first time. From 2009 to 2011, Golding served as a British National Party (BNP) councillor for St Mary’s Ward in Swanley on the Sevenoaks District Council. He was also the party’s communications officer. In the 2010 general election, he ran as the BNP candidate for Sevenoaks and won 2.8 percent of the vote. Golding was ejected from the BNP in 2008 for violently assaulting Lawrence Rustem, a BNP Barking Borough Councillor who is partly Turkish. In 2011, Golding founded the Britain First movement with a membership of only three individuals. According to Britain First’s official website, the party has millions of supporters across the world.

In 2014, Golding ran as the party’s lead candidate for the European Parliamentary elections for Wales and received 0.9% of the total votes. He was also an active member of the neo-Nazi National Front. In 2016, Golding, alongside London mayor Sadiq Khan, ran for the London mayoral elections and received around 31,000 votes. 

In December 2019, Golding declared that he was a paid-up member of the Bexleyheath and Crayford Conservative Association. He said that his intention was to “assist Boris Johnson’s control of the leadership, so we can accomplish Brexit and perhaps curb immigration and combat radical Islam.” A Tory spokesman confirmed shortly after the announcement that “Paul Golding’s application for membership of the Conservative Party has not been granted due to his extremist views and activities.”

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

April 2021: On the 17th of April, police were rushed to a Nottingham hotel when Paul Golding and supporters of Britain First entered and began beating on bedroom doors, antagonizing the asylum seekers within and asking from which countries they had come. The Home Office was utilizing hotels to house asylum seekers and the incident came as far-right observers allege an uptick in far-right activities targeting hotels suspected of housing asylum seekers.

October 2018: In an article by Daily Mail, Paul Golding was charged with a number of offenses relating to anti-immigrant flyers disseminated in Northern Ireland’s County Antrim. Golding was accused with three counts of disseminating written material with the intent to incite hate. He has also been charged for using threatening, abusive, and insulting words and behavior on multiple occasions.

March 2018: According to The Guardian, Paul Golding was sentenced to 18 weeks in jail, while his wife, Jayda Fransen was condemned to 36 weeks. They had both been convicted guilty of anti-Muslim aggravated harassment earlier that day at Folkestone magistrate’s court. “These defendants were not just practicing their free speech rights, but were instead directing religiously exacerbated abuse at innocent members of the public,” the prosecutor told the court.

December 2016: According to the BBC, ​​Paul Golding was imprisoned for violating a court order prohibiting him from entering a mosque or encouraging others to do so. Golding admitted contempt of court and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison. In August, an injunction was issued prohibiting him from entering any mosque in England and Wales. However, nine days later, he drove four members of Britain First to Cardiff’s Al-Manar Centre for a “mosque invasion.” He was also barred from inciting others to visit a mosque.
