Biography

Hajjaj Bin Fahad Al Ajmi is a Kuwaiti preacher and social activist, accused and sanctioned by the US government and the United Nations in 2014 for supporting Al-Nusrah Front affiliated with Al Qaida in Syria. Al Ajmi led the fundraising campaigns for the benefit of Al-Qaida in Syria where he had to travel to on multiple occasions from Qatar and Kuwait.

In 2012, Hajjaj traveled to Qatar at the invitation of an official in the Qatari Ministry of Endowments (Awqaf) to speak at a symposium where he called for jihad in Syria. Two Qatari nationals who were sanctioned as well, Mubarak al-Ajji and Jabir al-Mari, served as coordinators and points of contact in Qatar for Hajjaj’s fundraising activities. In 2013, Hajjaj al-Ajmi led the "Mobilization of the People of Qatar Campaign," a Qatar-based fundraising campaign that provided funds for the procurement of weapons for militants in Syria.

According to the UN Security Council, he is responsible for at least one Twitter fundraising campaign. In early January 2014, he offered the Al-Nusrah Front money to lead a military campaign in Homs, Syria. During summer 2013, he was photographed in Latakia Governorate, Syria, with terrorist fighters. In the same period Al Ajmi provided financial support to Al-Nusrah Front, the Army of Emigrants and Supporters and Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant, listed as Al-Qaida in Iraq, through his support to the Operation “Rescue the Syrian Coast”. Al Ajmi is also in contact with a main financier linked to Al-Qaida.
