Biography

Charles McVety is a Canadian evangelical Christian pastor who has been presiding over the Canada Christian College since 1993. Like other extremist evangelical pastors, McVety has been outspoken on his opposition to gay rights, abortion and Islam. His hate-speech has been met with condemnation from Canadian liberal activists.

More recently, McVety lashed out and expressed outrage at Canada’s New Democratic Party (NDP) for scuttling his bid to upgrade the Canada Christian College to a university. In his response, McVety stated that the NDP “hates Christians, and that the party believes we [Christians] are second-class citizens who should be shunned from society”.

Evidence of Hate Speech/Incitement:

May 2011: McVety invited the well-known Islamophobic Dutch MP, Geert Wilders to speak at a closed event at the Canada Chritian College run by McVety. During the event, McVety stated that “We’re all for freedom of religion, but when its mission is a hostile takeover, well that’s a different story. Islam is not just a religion, it’s a political and cultural system as well and we know that Christians, Jews and Hindus don’t have the same mandate for a hostile takeover”.

2010: McVety claimed that “sex education would lead to queer adults preying on children”.
